Install i OS 7.1 update wirelessly Over the Air (OTA): Before you start the download, plug in your device so the battery doesn’t drain during the update process.
It can take anywhere from 15 mins to an hour for the update to download and install, depending on how Apple’s servers are handling the load and your internet connection.
Your i Phone or i Pad will continue to download the update and will send you a notification when the update is ready.
Go back to Settings A note to Jailbreakers: If you’ve used evasi0n, OTA updates will be disabled, which is convenient if you plan to delay updating.
Now you will need to hold the Power Sleep/Wake button (on top) and the Home button together for about 20 to 25 seconds. When it is done downloading the latest software from Apple and it is done restoring, you will see the screen where you can sync the i Pod with music, videos, applications, and the photos you choose. This process works with all of the models and generations listed here: It unlocks the 1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen, and 4th generation models.
Hold the two buttons together until the device resets and shows a screen with a USB plug and an i Tunes logo. For those who are having trouble, follow these steps.
When you see this USB & i Tunes screen, you will need to open i Tunes. I have done this many times using the exact instructions detailed above.
You will then see a screen in i Tunes telling you it detected an i Pod in recovery mode. Then you will see the screen in i Tunes where you can click to restore the device. After you click the Restore button in i Tunes, leave the i Pod plugged into the computer until it is done restoring. The entire process happens with the i Pod plugged into the computer and it is very simple to unlock… Plug the i Pod Touch into your computer, make sure i Tunes opens. Close i Tunes, but keep your i Pod Touch plugged in.
(If you are on a Mac, be sure to click “i Tunes” in the top left corner of your screen and click “Quit i Tunes”.
